As the deadline rounds the corner for student senate elections at Butte College the team thought we’d give a chance to reach out to potential candidates so students would be able to gain a better understanding of exactly who and what they are voting for.

Celestina Davis jumped at the opportunity to speak with The Roadrunner, here is what she had to say regarding the following questions.

What is the purpose of the student senate?

“The purpose behind the student senate here at the campus is to give students some form of representation with the administration. We advocate for the students and voice their needs and concerns and any ideas they feel may be beneficiary to the campus and its students. Essentially we are the bridge between the students and administration.”

What are your goals if you are elected?

“I want to make the resources and pathways to careers much more accessible and clear, one thing I’ve noticed here is that we have all these resources but not many students are aware of them especially our transfer and foreign students. I’d also like to implement some more transparent spaces, we have centers for students but I feel as though sometimes students may feel as though you have to belong to certain groups in order to utilize those spaces. So my goal would be to make spaces that everyone feels welcome at. I’ve also heard of students here at the campus having a hard time finding housing, I defiantly think the college should implement a program that helps students enrolled here with help finding housing.”

Why should students vote for you?

“I feel that students should vote for me because I have seen what it’s like for students here at campus and I understand how much weight a students voice should carry when it comes to these conversations with administration and our leadership when it comes to their decision making and policies.”
