As the 2025-2026 United States Supreme Court term reaches a close, SCOTUS still has several cases awaiting resolution. The next hearing date is set for tomorrow, June 29, and the final cases are expected to go into early July.
One of the major cases involving President Trump is Trump v. Cook. President Trump attempted to fire Governor Lisa Cook in August 2025, citing alleged mortgage fraud. Cook denies these allegations and challenged Trump’s dismissal in court. Cook argues that the Federal Reserve Act protects governors, stating they can be removed only “for cause”.
Trump v. Slaughter is another pending case involving Trump’s firings throughout his term. President Trump fired Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, claiming she was “inconsistent” with his administration’s priorities. Slaughter sued President Trump, arguing her removal is unlawful and without cause.
Other cases include:
- Trump v. Barbara – Challenges Trump’s executive order against birthright citizenship
- Wastson v. R.N.C – Challenges the mail-in ballot grace period for ballots mailed in on election day but received up to 5 business days later.
- N.R.S.C v. F.E.C – Challenges limits on how much money political parties can spend on candidates
- West Virginia v. B.P.J and Little v. Hecox – Challenges West Virginia and Idaho’s laws that prohibit transgender athletes in women’s sports.
The decisions made could have a significant impact on the limits of presidential power in the removal of federal officials and the use of executive authority. Once the SCOTUS issues its final rulings, the current SCOTUS term will close, setting legal precedents that will affect U.S. Policy beyond Trump’s final term.
