Hannah Montana first aired on Disney Channel March 24th, 2006 and 20 years later here we are celebrating the reunion of a show that set the stage for an entire generation. Being a fan myself and seeing Miley pay tribute to the show with her fans in such a way as she did truly shows just what kind of person she is, and exactly why she was the right fit for the role of Hannah Montana.
The anniversary special aired on March 24th, 2026 on Disney+ with special guests including Miley’s real life mother, Tish Cyrus, as well as Billy Ray Cyrus, her father both on and off screen, popstar Chappell Roan, and Disney Icon, Selena Gomez.
The reunion took place on the original set of the Hannah Montana show in the house that “Miley Stewart” and her family lived in during the 4 seasons that it aired.
The special opened up with a short montage of iconic moments from the show as Miley arrived at the set. Taking her place on a platform that would then rise to the main stage.
In true Miley turned Hannah fashion, the popstar was seen with long blonde hair, bangs and a darker colored version of a true Hannah inspired outfit. The scene being an ode to the Hannah Montana original movie as Miley opened up the reunion with the hit song “Best of Both Worlds”.
After the introduction Miley turned on the lights and opened the doors of the set to the “Stewart” household, a popular background for many scenes throughout the show, as Miley reminisced on her many fond memories from 2 decades ago.
We were also introduced to social media star and popular podcaster, Alex Cooper as the host that we would see sporadically throughout the hour long event.
Nostalgia upheld the recurring theme throughout the reunion as Miley took a trip down memory lane, revisiting the iconic Hannah Montana closet and wardrobe, old Hannah wigs and the fond memory of Miley meeting costars, Emily Osment and Mitchell Musso who would all become very close on set.
As stated by Miley, this reunion is about more than just the show, but rather “Reclaiming Hannah and merging her and Miley together”. And that theme was clear as we got to see Miley as who she is now, rather than trying to advert to how things were 20 years ago.
All tattooed and grown up, Miley didn’t shy away from who she is now, but rather embraced it for us all now. Miley has had great power with her time in front of the screen, being referred to as a “Disney Legend”. From moments that defined her as a childhood icon to moments that some questioned as “rebellious” or “wild”. Revisiting the old friend “Hannah Montana” and meeting the character and herself right where she is today, showed something powerful.
Miley honored the show with tribute to certain important moments from the iconic love triangle between Miley, Jesse, and Jake to rereading an old scene from episode, “I’ll always remember you” with her dad at the kitchen table in the Stewart household, and recreating the iconic choreography from the song “Hoedown Throwdown” in the original movie with choreographer, Jamal Simms.
Miley made it feel like it was okay to grow up, to change from who you once were into who you want to become. She paved a way that made so many people feel seen, heard, and understood and even dedicated her last song of the premiere, “Younger You”, to that exact feeling. Leaving us all with not a single dry eye in sight.
Not only was the Hannah Montana Reunion special something that was used to honor the great show and her time spent on the set but also, it created something so full circle and so healing for the girls and boys across the world who grew up watching the show.
