Right in front of the Financial Aid Office, Butte College’s Career Center very own Janine Gomez and Susie Sierra handed out cupcakes to passing students while sharing the many ways they can offer support.

From general services like helping students find internships or on-campus and off-campus job opportunities to assisting undecided students in choosing the right major, the Career Center does it all! Read ahead to learn about a few lesser-known resources that might make your day a little easier.

Help Paying for Class Resources

With assistance from the Alliance for Workforce Development (AFWD), students can receive funding for essential class materials. Are you a nursing student tight on money? They can help you get scrubs. A welder without a helmet? They’ve got you covered. Stop spending money when you don’t need to—visit the AFWD, located in the Career Center on campus, and get the resources you need!

Financial Help and Workplace Opportunities for Impaired Students

Through the California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR), students can receive financial assistance for expenses such as books, transportation, and college tuition, making life a little easier. Students may also qualify for paid internships designed to accommodate physical and/or mental impairments.

For assistance with these resources, contact Evangelina Herrera at DOR by email at [email protected] or call 530-588-1080.

Workshops and Class Presentations

The Career Center offers a variety of workshops and events to support students in different ways. Upcoming events include the Parent Resource Fair on Feb. 12 and the Career Center and Foundation Scholarship Workshop on Feb. 20.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the annual Career Fair, typically held in the fall, where students can explore job opportunities both on and off campus.
