The President of the Oglala Sioux has taken back his recent claims of tribal members being held in ICE custody.
According to the Associated Press, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it was unable to verify that any of their officers ever even encountered members from the tribe and the department has always been adamant that it never held any supposed tribal members from the Oglala Sioux band under detention.
Frank Star Comes Out has not respond to any of the multiple requests made for comment as of yet.
Star Comes Out also walked backed on his statement of the supposed demands made by ICE, where the tribe was allegedly told the way they would be given access to the information of the supposed members in custody would be to sign an agreement with the department itself, allowing for ICE to come onto their tribal lands in pursuit of undocumented immigrants, stating that his memo regarding the alleged demands had been “misinterpreted.”
It should be noted that the Oglala Sioux and the Department of Homeland Security have had a rocky relationship for some time, with the current head of the DHS, Kristi Noem, having been banned outright from the Pine Ridge Reservation by Tribal President Star Comes Out after making claims of cartel activity on the reservation without presenting any evidence of these alleged activities.
