Raúl Rocha, one of the CEOs of Miss Universe, is under investigation for alleged connections to organized crime groups, according to reports from Telemundo and the Los Angeles Times. Prosecutors reportedly requested that his bank accounts be frozen as the investigation progresses, fueled in part by social media rumors regarding the possibly illegitimate origin of the money Rocha used to purchase part of the pageant. It is noteworthy that the amount he paid exceeded the price for which Donald Trump sold the entire Miss Universe organization.
The controversy also reached the recent crowning of Miss Mexico, after claims surfaced that her father, a businessman, has business ties with Rocha. Although Rocha confirmed this connection, he denied that it had any influence on the competition’s outcome.
Adding to the turmoil, on November 25, the Bangkok prosecutor’s office issued an arrest warrant for the Thai woman, Anne Jakrajutatip, the other CEO of the pageant.
Meanwhile, this week the pageant’s vice president, Nawat Itsaragrisil , announced on Instagram that he filed a defamation complaint against the current Miss Universe. According to him, Fátima Bosch’s recent interviews revived tensions between them, including an incident in which he allegedly called her “dump” during a pageant event. However, Bosch denied having any lawsuit or legal issue in an interview with Telemundo. After the first commercial break, the beauty queen walked out of the studio and canceled the rest of her scheduled appearances with the network without giving any explanation. It is worth noting that Telemundo is one of Miss Universe’s official broadcasting partners.
