On Nov. 26, 2025, two West Virginia National Guard members were shot near the White House. Sarah Beckstrom (20), one of the guards, later died from injuries. Andrew Wolfe (24), the other guard, remains in critical condition.
According to the Guardian, the shooting occurred outside the Farragut West Metro station, with officials calling it “targeted”. During the attack, the suspect fired a .357 revolver at the guardsmen, before being shot and hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
In response to the shooting Trump has ordered an additional 500 National Guard troops be deployed to the Washington D.C. area. Citing concern over National Security as the reason. The decision came amid ongoing legal disputes over the presence of the National Guard in the capital. A lower court recently ordering that the deployment be halted under the Home Rule Act.
He even called the shooting an “act of terror” in a video statement released on the White House’s official X page. Linking it to U.S. immigration policy and calling for the review of all Afghan nationals who have entered the U.S. under the Biden administration.
In fact, according to another post, made by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Joseph Edlow the administration has currently paused all asylum decisions for Afghan nationals until they “can ensure that every alien is vetted and screened to the maximum degree possible”.
At the moment federal authorities, including the FBI, are investigating the shooting as an act of terrorism. With officials looking into how the suspect entered the U.S. and whether any security protocols failed.
