Ten MESA (Math, Engineering, Science Achievement) students have been selected to participate in a 10-week undergraduate research project or an internship through the 2026 SURIE (Summer Undergraduate Research/Internship Experience) program.
SURIE is designed to provide students with hands-on experience in STEM fields, connecting them with faculty mentors, research projects, and industry-related internships. Through this program, students gain valuable exposure to real-world applications of their coursework while developing critical skills in research, communication, and professional development.
Participants were selected through a competitive application process that evaluated academic preparation, interest in STEM, and commitment to their educational and career goals. The selected students represent a diverse group of majors and backgrounds, reflecting the mission of the MESA program.
In addition to their placements, students will participate in a series of nine professional development workshops, covering topics such as research fundamentals, data analysis, networking in STEM, graduate school preparation, and presenting research at conferences.

This program is about more than just gaining experience—it’s about helping students see themselves as researchers, professionals, and future leaders in STEM.
By participating in SURIE, students will build their resumes, expand their professional networks, and take important steps toward transferring to four-year institutions and pursuing careers in STEM fields.
The MESA Program continues to play a critical role in supporting STEM student success at Butte College by providing academic support, mentorship, and access to transformative opportunities like SURIE.
