Civil unrest broke out as members of the Mexican Cartel revolted against government and police officials after an organized sting resulted in the death of cartel leader ‘El Mencho’ in Talpalpa, Jalisco on Sunday (Feb, 22, 2026.) Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, referred to as ‘El Mencho’, succumbed to injuries sustained in the initial gunfight with police. Resulting in an already estimated 73 deaths to carry out the operation it is confirmed that civilians, military personnel, and potential cartel members make up those numbers.

Cartel members have initiated a full scale massacre, threatening to kill any one that goes outside. Putting civilians and tourists alike at risk and distrusting lives.
Reports are surfacing of roadblocks, burning vehicles and men with automatic guns in military-like dress, warning residents and tourists alike to stay inside their homes while promising that anyone that is found moving in the streets will be killed.
Additionally, armed-men stormed the gates of a prison in Puerto Vallarta, a border prison, where it is estimated that 23 prisoners escaped during the chaos. Concerns remain as stay-at-home orders are lifted, as previously the deaths of cartel leaders have evolved into full-scale wars.
Mencho was well-known for the success of the drug-trade that existed in Mexico and responsible for trafficking synthetic drugs such as fentanyl, leaving a power vacuum and uncertainties surrounding the future of Mexican states if the cartel decides to launch another attack.
