It has been over a year since the Bidwell Mansion was burned down on December 11, 2024. Kevin Alexander Carlson of Chico was sentenced to 11 years in state prison for felony arson and was ordered to pay $37 million in restitution.
On September 5, 2025, the California State Parks announced the launch of Reimagine Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, a “15-month project to engage with the community, tribal partners, and stakeholders in the development of a new vision for the park.“
Besides an interactive timeline about the history of the mansion, the website offers an overview of the planning process and particpation opportunities.
A recovery fund is ongoing, and the Bidwell Mansion Association recently held their annual meeting.
