“We only have one life to live. Don’t allow judgment from anyone who doesn’t understand your vision to deter you from your goals.” That is what our very own Butte College Kinesiology Student of the Year North award winner, Ashely Threewit wants you to remember as you strive forward with hard work and determination towards your future and your goals.
This pristine award is something that deserves every bit of recognition, and here with the Butte College Roadrunner Newspaper, we want to give Ashely every ounce of credit she is worthy of!
Ashely is a second year returning student to Butte College, and has switched her major from what it originally was to be a Kinesiology Major upon her return. When asked what the ultimate goal was for Ashely, she said, “I am working towards my BA in kinesiology and want to establish my own dance fitness program.”
As a person with prior lived experience with homelessness, Ashely finds inspiration in people just like her, “Homeless, is not Hopeless.” Her journey to where she is today is not one that happened over night, but one that happened because she never gave up, and that other people believed in her as well. The Genesis Pallet Shelter site in Chico is where Ashley credits her success, being homeless for nearly 4 years, she found support through the department for rehabilitation and got back on track to school with the help from financial aid.
Even through these trials, Ashely persevered. Over the last 3 semesters, she has maintained an all but one “A” record on her transcript with the other grade being a “B”. Through living conditions such as multiple bus stops in the mornings, or walking in the harsh down pour of the rain some days, Ashely has done a great deal to prove to herself and to everyone else exactly who she is and why she is here.
The Kinesiology Student of The Year Award- North is not just something that Ashley worked toward, but something that motivated her. When told she won on that fateful day back on March 15, Ashely said she was in a “humble state of aw”. “I worked hard and being nominated alone was an honor of its own I was grateful for. Winning solidified for me that I am on the path I feel I am meant to pursue. ”
Ashley plans to continue her academic career at Chico State University in the fall of 2026.
