Butte College Board of Trustees May 20 meeting included a heartfelt goodbye to our student trustee Jared Smith, who is graduating this month. Wednesday’s meeting marked Smith’s final meeting after serving as the student representative on the board.

The new student trustee will be Sam Ceja.

The Board also discussed new buildings planned for construction, and the possible acceptance of the gift of  a 736-acre parcel of land. According to the agenda,

“The properties may have significant educational, research, forestry, conservation, and recreational potential. Due to the scale and complexity of the gift, District staff recommend further due diligence before finalizing long-term use, stewardship, maintenance, and partnership plans.”

Butte College has brought back its cheerleading team and upcoming tryouts scheduled for May 27 through May 30, 2026. After a five-year hiatus, the team will support campus athletics.

Trustees also reviewed the proposed budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year, which begins July 1, 2026.
