December 9, 2025, marked the first day of the Clay Club’s two-day sale of student-made

mugs, vases, bells, bowls, and other ceramic items. The walkway outside the Campus Center was lined with tables displaying student art ranging from $5–$70 and was staffed with the artists, who were excited to discuss their work.

Jacob Neff, a student artist, proudly showed off his work and spoke about what ceramics means to him. “I feel like I’ve been discovering myself through ceramics. Like, I’ve made a lot of personal growth through it, and it’s my passion.”

This sale serves two purposes for the Clay Club. Students have an opportunity to practice their communication skills and gain real-world experience for what markets are truly like. Selling, pricing, and customer interactions are skills that are honed with practice. This sale also puts money in the hands of Butte College’s artists.

The proceeds from this sale are split between the artists and Clay Club to help fund their trip to the California Conference for the Advancement of Ceramic Arts in Davis, California, where the members of the Clay Club meet with master potters, watch demonstrations, and build community with artists.
