If you have spent any time on the Butte College main campus, then you have noticed the construction around the math building. It’s the new state-of-the-art science building.

The 72,276-square-foot, $73.2 million state-of-the-art facility is planned to be opened in the fall of 2025. The science building will include.

  • Two small lecture classrooms
  • Lab/lecture spaces for microbiology, anatomy, physiology, zoology/botany, geology,  meteorology, physics, and chemistry

  • A cadaver room
  • 38 faculty offices
  • Collaborative and peer-based learning spaces
  • 2400-sqaure-foot planetarium

The science building will have solar panels installed in the nearby parking lot to help with the energy needs and will  offer all-gender bathrooms plus a private lactation room for those nursing babies.

The project is funded by Measure J, which is a $190 million bond approved by voters in November of 2016.

The construction site is between the math and allied health buildings. Check out the daily progress by viewing  Camera 1 and Camera 2.

The Butte College is now announcing that on April 17, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the main campus, you are invited “to leave a mark on the new science building and planetarium” by signing the science building beam.

Be apart of the action and go sign the beam on Wednesday.
