I had the pleasure of meeting Butte’s very own Ashley Wellman. Wellman is a starting player on Butte’s women’s soccer team. You can see Wellman mainly playing position nine which is a forward spot. Although she does enjoy playing this position, she would much rather play center back or outside back. She believes these positions suit her better after playing them all her high school career.
Speaking of high school, Wellman played for Enterprise High School all four years. She also played for a club called The Misfits Adrenaline which Wellman informed me is a 06 team. She played for this program for 6 years. Wellman has been playing soccer for about 12 years.
When asked what some highlights of her athletic career, Wellman replied, “I really enjoyed having colleges look into me while I was playing back in high school. I also really like having a starting position on Butte’s team this year.”
Wellman is studying to become a nurse and is planning to transfer to either the University of Washington or the University of Arizona, she’s not set just yet. She is also trying to figure out if she wants to continue playing soccer after her transfer.
For now, Wellman enjoys the connections between her teammates. “I think the dynamic is really good for all of us. I like how we play with each other. I feel like our team is pretty unstoppable. Of course, we have off games here and there, but I think this team is strong.”
