The Park Fire Attacks Chico

The Park fire has exploded in size since it began to burn Upper Bidwell Park on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, before 3 pm, in Chico.

As of July 25, the fire has grown to 45,550 acres, with 3% containment, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

According to Cal-Fire the Number of Resources assigned to fight the Park Fire is

6- Helicopters, 153 engines, 41 dozers, 10 water tenders, 40- crews with a total of 1,153 personnel.

It’s unclear how many structures and people have been destroyed or injured.

FEMA has issued a State of emergency and has allocated funds to help fight the fire.

As of writing this article, Cal-Fire has confirmed that an arrest has been made in connection with the Park Fire. Cal-Fire followed up on reports that a man was seen by multiple people shortly before 3 pm on Wednesday in upper Bidwell Park pushing a car that was on fire down a 60-foot embankment, then the male calmly walked away from the scene and blending in with the crowd.

Reports show that people saw him and took pictures of the man, helping law enforcement officials find and make an arrest.

The 42-year-old man has been booked into the Butte County Jail, and the District Attorney has said his identity will be revealed later.
