Keegan Murray is a forward for the Sacramento Kings coming into his second year with pretty high expectations. As a rookie, Keegan averaged 12 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist a game on high efficiency,(including 41% from 3 point land), easily breaking the rookie 3 pointers made record, and earning himself a first-team-all-rookie- team, as well as western conference rookie of the month honors in December and January.
With such a great rookie year under his belt, Keegan is expected to ameliorate the team even more this year, and he can do that by improving in a few areas. The main thing I notice with Keegan that needs to improve is his confidence. When he plays with confidence, he is much more than just a 3 point sniper.
A good example of this is when he played in the summer league this off-season, where he dropped 41 points on 11-20 shooting from the field, and went 6-11 from 3 point land against the Miami Heat. In this game, he was playing with confidence, not only knocking down 3’s at an elite rate, but also taking defender’s off the dribble, making tough finishes around the rim, and playing lock-down defense.
Even just watching their pre-season game against the Toronto Raptors, we saw Keegan attacking the rim more, being more aggressive, and even taking the ball up the court a few times all while playing elite defense, which are all the things Kings fans were hoping Keegan would be able to improve on.
If the Kings are able to get this type of production out of Keegan this year, which I personally think they will, they will be not only a top team in the west, but will be a contender for a title in the very near future.
