On October 21, 2024, Butte College announced its Fall 2024 performance schedule, promising a magical season filled with music and creativity. From symphonic and jazz performances to choir and band concerts, the upcoming lineup is set to showcase the talents of students, faculty, and some very special guest artists.
The season will open later this month on October 30 with “Myth, Madness, and Mystery,” directed by Ryan Heimlich. This concert will feature dramatic and legendary musical pieces, including “Godzilla Eats Las Vegas” and “The Inferno.” Beyond this, the season’s big opener will also feature trumpet soloist Ayako Nakamura joining the Butte College Symphonic Band for the event, which will take place at the Butte College Black Box Theatre.
Following that, the next event will take place on November 7, when the Butte College Jazz Ensemble will perform “Switch in Time” with special guest Aman Cowell at the Black Box Theatre. Those planning on attending can expect a special night of jazz with rhythm changes and timeless hits such as “Switch in Time” and “Night and Day.”
On November 19, the Butte College Choir will present “Blue Skies: The Sounds of Timeless Jazz,” under the direction of Luke Nicolay. With performances of songs like “Besame Mucho” and “Blue Skies” and the presence of Erika Ray and the Butte College Jazz Combo, this one promises to be a highlight of the semester. The concert will also take place at the Butte College Black Box Theatre.
Furthermore, Butte College will have another exciting event on December 5 with The Pop Band Show. Directed by Ryan Davidson, Aman Cowell, and Dave Elke, the Pop Band Show promises high-energy performances of pop hits and original compositions. This lively event will also be held at the Black Box Theatre.
Just six days after the energetic Pop Band Show, Butte students are invited to a much more intimate experience with the Student Showcase on December 11. The Student Showcase will feature solo performances by Butte College students. This midday concert will take place at the Butte College Black Box Theatre and will be free to attend, with all students highly encouraged to go.
To continue the marathon of fun events in December, on the 12th, Butte College will present the “Fall 2024 Kaleidoscope,” where musical diversity will be celebrated with solo and group performances across various genres, spotlighting the depth of talent within Butte College’s music community. This event will also be held at the Black Box Theatre.
On December 13, just a day after the “Fall 2024 Kaleidoscope,” it’ll be time to take things off campus with the Butte College Pop Band performing at the Naked Lounge in downtown Chico. This event will be free and provide a casual and intimate setting for live music.
To close out the season, on December 14, “A Jazzy Nutcracker” will be performed at Butte College’s Black Box Theatre. This performance will feature Duke Ellington’s iconic jazz take on the holiday classic and will include an all-star big band playing holiday standards.
So make sure to mark your calendars and don’t miss this unique chance to be part of this exciting musical season!
