We recently published the first print issue of the semester.
As times have changed so has the journalism industry. As a student press, we are constantly learning, and one of the best things we have at our fingertips is the digital edition alongside the print issue.
Digital can be a game changer, since most students these days get all their information from social media and the internet. The digital version helps us stay up-to-date and have fun being a digital publication. We have gotten a lot of traction from that as well.
People seem to love the layout and style, and we at the Roadrunner are proud of our unique design which we believe makes us stand out. The diverse thoughts and writers we have bring the paper to life as well.
It’s taken a lot of hard work and some on the team have put in many hours and late nights to make this publication happen. We also put a lot of work into creative ways to get the campus engaged and reading the content we publish such as distribution events, crazy attention-seeking flyers, and participation events like photo submissions of cars and pets or taking selfies in specific locations for our Oh What! challenge.
We also have a print edition that we have put out two times a semester, and as print has fallen off nowadays, we still believe in the power of print. In the past we have experimented with magazine-style print editions.
As editor-in-chief, it’s been awesome to the way the team flows and gets going with stories and learn to harness the voice and power of journalism in both print and digital publications.
As the Roadrunner newsroom continues to grow and brainstorm ways to make not only this publication the best it can be but to watch the team become the skilled writers and experienced journalists. Since none of this happens without them, I say thank you and you all are very much appreciated, as are the readers who we do it for.
Yes, a student-run paper is exciting and chaotic but that’s also part of the fun, isn’t it!
