Last year the Bills lost a ton of players due to free agency, trades, and injuries which resulted in a lot of key pieces not returning for the 2024 season. All-Pro WR Stefon Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans for a 2025 2nd round pick; Jordan Poyer signed with the Dolphins; Tre White signed with the Rams; Micah Hyde was not re-signed; and Matt Milano is out until late December.
Many thought the Bills would fall off and not be a good team in 2024, but Brandon Beane (Bill’s general manager) made sure to replace the players he lost. The notable players added are Ja’Marcus Ingram CB, Mack Hollins WR, Curtis Samuel WR, Casey Toohill DE, Keon Coleman WR and Cole Bishop FS.
Ja’Marcus Ingram stats: 4 games, 5 tackles, 1 sack, 2 ints, and 1 TD
Mack Hollins stats: 4 games, 11 targets, 4 catches, 46 yards, and 1 TD
Curtis Samuel stats: 4 games, 9 targets, 8 catches, and 48 yards
Casey Toohill stats: 4 games, 7 tackles, 1 sack, and 1 fumble recovery
Keon Coleman stats: 4 games, 11 targets, 8 catches, 126 yards, and 1 TD
Cole Baishop stats: 3 games, 8 tackles, and 1 pass deflected
QB Josh Allen leading the offense and the defense creating turnovers are a huge reason for Buffalo’s 3-0 start. In week 1, the Bills won a close game against the Arizona Cardinals, 34-28. Allen had 4 total touchdowns (2 passing, 2 rushing) with 271 total yards and a 78% completion (18/23). The Bills’ defense had four sacks and a forced fumble.
The following week, the Bills dominated the Miami Dolphins 31-10. Josh Allen did not need to carry the team on his back against the Dolphins, but that does not mean he didn’t play well; he had 139 yards with 1 TD while completing 13 of his 19 passes. The stars of the show were running back James Cook and the defense. James Cook had 12 touches for 95 yards and 3 TDs, and the defense picked off Tua three times, with one of the ints going for a TD. Ja’Marcus Ingram had two of those, including the one that went for a TD. This was a great division win for the Bills; they improved to 2-0.
In week 3, the Bills Molly whopped the Jacksonville Jaguars 47-10. Josh Allen took over and secured the Bills win at Halftime with a score of 34-3. Allen had 307 total yards with 4 TDs, and the Bills’ defense had 5 sacks, 1 forced fumble, and 1 int. Damar Hamlin, who almost lost his life in January 2023 after collapsing on the field, recorded his first ever int. That must have felt amazing for him. Keon Coleman scored the 1st TD of his career off a 24-yard catch too.
Come week 4, the Bills lost 10-35 to the Baltimore Ravens due to Derrick Henry rushing for 200 yards and having 2 TDs and Lamar Jackson having 3 TDs himself. The Bills were down 10-21 with the momentum but, for some reason, ran a trick play that was not going to work. Josh Allen had 201 yards and 0 TDs, but you can’t blame him for the L because the Oline was getting destroyed all night. WR Keon Coleman had his best game of the year so far, having 3 catches for 51 yards.
Even though the Bills lost this week, they are still 3-1 and 1st in their division. They will face the Houston Texans next week and see an old friend in Stefon Diggs. That should be a fun game to watch. Josh Allen vs. CJ Stroud 2 of the most exciting QBs in the entire NFL.
