Why does this frat keep emailing me?
If you are like most of the students receiving emails from Phi Theta Kappa, you are most likely annoyed that some club you have never heard of is asking you to join their group. Well let’s get a few things out of the way before I let you know all that the PTK has to offer Butte College students.
Phi Theta Kappa is Butte College’s Honors Society. PTK represents Butte and many other community colleges and participation offers many ways to grow as a person and become a part of a bigger national and international community.
Can I get in?
Before getting into what benefits are unlocked when you join the club, firstly, let’s see if you can get in. The only requirements are to have a GPA above 3.3., to have completed 12 units at Butte College, and lastly, to have payed the one time 90-dollar fee.
We were told by Nathen Murawski, the Club Advisor, that 1700 Butte College students are eligible to join if they want. So, why aren’t more people taking advantage of the club, activities, connections and scholarships?
Scholarship Opportunities
Don’t let the one-time 90-dollar lifetime membership fee deter you because the benefits could greatly outweigh that price tag. By being in the Phi Theta Kappa honors society, you are eligible to apply to over 36 million dollars in transfer scholarships that are available to anyone in the club looking to transfer to a university after you are finished with Butte.
Build your resume
Each year the international PTK society assigns activities and projects and members are responsible for completing the projects and making Butte’s club run smoothly. Participation in these different activities and projects can help you gain and hone skills that will be incredible for your resume and university applications.
Make friends and connections
The PTK society is full of like-minded individuals, wanting to build and maintain lifelong professional and personal relationships. PTK students today are tomorrow’s bosses, managers, and coworkers, so go find some connections from people in your major or future profession to help each other grow and connect for a lifetime.
Still Unsure?
Completely understandable. If you are still not completely sold on the club and all of its benefits, so why don’t you stop by a meeting at the Butte College Chico Center every Thursday at 5:00 Pm. You don’t have to be a club member to attend these meetings, so if you want a few questions answered before making the pledge. Be sure to stop by and have a chat! We were promised doughnuts one of these nights so you can’t miss out on that.
