49% Contained

Park fire is now 49% contained with over 429,263 acres burned spanning four counties Butte, Tehama, Shasta, and Plumas. The Park fire started July 24, 2024, near Alligator Hole in Upper Bidwell Park near Chico.

The Park fire has become the fourth largest fire in California’s history and the largest active fire burning.

The cause of the fire is arson, a man who has been identified as Ronnie Dean Stout II has been arrested, arraigned, and pleaded not guilty in the Butte County Superior Courthouse. Ronnie Stout II 42 of Chico,  is accused by witnesses at the scene who claimed to have seen Ronnie Dean Stout II near 3:00 pm push a car that has been later identified as his mother’s Toyota Yaris engulfed in flames into a 60-foot ravine, then calmly walk away blending into the crowd and leaving the scene, being arrested the next day in a mobile home park in Chico.

A State of Emergency has been declared by Governor Gavin Newsom, and FEMA has also been deployed for assistance to those affected by the Park fire.

4,640 Personnel, 12 Helicopters, 287 Engines, 83 dozers, 206 water tenders, and 112 crews are fighting the fire, according to CAL-FIRE website 

637 structures have been destroyed and 49 have been damaged, with no confirmed fatalities.

NO evacuation orders or warnings have been issued for Butte County.

  • Highway 89 through Lassen National Park is closed.

The Park fire has burned 113,744 acres of the Lassen National Park.

The Park fire has also affected the Scouts of America which according to Yahoo News have a camp at Lassen Park which was built in the 1930s have been a huge part of the Scout’s summer program where they learn all kinds of things from reading a compass, fishing, archery, fire building and more.

During the summer program, the kids at the Lassen summer camp for Scouts had to evacuate, Highway 32 was closed forcing them to take an old logging road that wasn’t paved for most parts of the trip.
