It took 2 years but Cody Rhodes finally defeated Roman Reigns and ended his streak of 1,316 consecutive days as the WWE Universal Champion. The title run from Reigns was the 4th longest in WWE history.
After failing to defeat The Tribal Chief at Wrestlemania 39 due to the Bloodline helping Roman not get pinned. Cody finally completed his story at Wrestlemania 40 in the city of brotherly love.
At Night One of Wrestlemania Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins faced The Rock and Roman Reigns in a Tag Team Match to determine whether Night Two (Cody Vs Roman) would be Bloodline rules (Anything goes) or a normal one-on-one match for the WWE Universal Championship. The Rock and Roman Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins.
At Night 2, Rhodes and Reigns both had fantastic entrances. The match started and both wrestlers kept going back and forth. Roman looked like he was about to retain his Championship once again after he got help from Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa but then Jey Uso stopped Jimmy by spearing him through two tables.
John Cena came out and put Sikoa through the announcer’s table. The Rock came out and stared at Cena for a few seconds then finally used his famous move “Rock Bottom.” This match kept on getting better every second then in a surprising move Seth Rollins came out to “The Shield” theme (Old Tag Team with Roman) but got Superman punched by Roman before he could hit The Rock with a steel chair.
A loud bell noise was heard and everyone knew it was the Deadman, The Undertaker. He appeared out of nowhere and choke slammed The Rock and disappeared. Roman took the steel chair and hit Seth with it as payback for what he did 10 years ago. Cody Rhodes took advantage of this and hit Reigns with three Cross Rhodes and then pinned Roman to win the WWE Universal Championship to complete his story.
